Kim and her five self proclaimed ‘coffee snob’ friends (who also happen to be her extended family!) dreamt up Slate after struggling to find the kind of Vietnamese food they loved in Perth. They identified a site on a 7 arces property in the beautiful Swan Valley which they co-own, that would work well in delivering their vision to create a family and pet friendly offering.
Slate Café is onto a winning formula according to Perth’s top food bloggers. “With a former Nobu chef at the helm, Slate Café is dishing up modern Australian dishes with Vietnamese influence – think chilli prawn omelette, wagyu beef pho, Vietnamese beef stew as well as all your usual breakfast options,” says the Urban List Perth.
“If you’re going to open a cafe in this financial climate, you’d better damn well have an original idea to make it work. Slate Cafe in West Swan has come up with such an original and innovative approach that it’s staggering in its conception and superb in its realisation,” says Douglas Sutherland-Bruce, an award winning actor and director who has been professionally critiquing food for over 30 years.
Slate Café has an indoor and outdoor playground, plus there’s an enclosed dog playground and large grassed picnic area where you can pull up a picnic rug and sit back and relax.
The vision for Slate Café was to create a space everyone can enjoy as their second home.
